UF Health Shands Hospital ranks among nation’s best in seven medical specialties

No other Florida hospital has more than seven adult specialties ranked in the nation’s top 50, up from six ranked specialties a year ago. And for the fifth year in a row, UF Health Shands is ranked in more adult and pediatric specialties combined than any other hospital in the state – a total of 12, factoring in the pediatric rankings released in June.

Summer camp helps kids face fears, aids UF researchers

Fear Facers Summer Camp, organized by UF’s Center for OCD, Anxiety & Related Disorders (COARD), is for children ranging from ages 7 to 15 with phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety. The camp is an alternative way for children to receive therapy and challenge themselves to overcome daily struggles.

For our July Quality and Safety Star Award, we are honoring Drs. Ashley Bindshedler, Jessica Khan, Danielle Epstein, and Tarik Ksaibati. Ashley and Jessica (administrative co-chief residents) have done an outstanding job orienting our new interns/residents to their services throughout the month of July. Danielle and Tarik (outpatient co-chief residents have done an outstanding job orienting our PGY-2/3s to the outpatient clinic. The importance of ensuring a good start to residency, the academic year, and major transitions are critical to our quality and safety missions.

Beatriz Elena de Bruna has taught meditation for over twenty years in both English and Spanish. She studied with meditation teachers from many practices, and after participating in the "Teacher Development Intensive" at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School her focus has been Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). She offers mindfulness courses in English or Spanish (or bilingual) for group and individual instruction at a variety of locations including community centers, health centers, homes, and hospitals.
